Our Story
Our story begins with two university students who volunteered in Athens in 2019, where they encountered the harsh reality faced by homeless refugees. Our founders witnessed the struggles of these individuals and realized that no one seemed to be addressing the service gap or systemic problems affecting this vulnerable population. Their initial goal was humble, but they were determined to make a difference. They began by launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for the homeless refugees they encountered during their trips.
The response was beyond their expectations. In less than a month, they raised over $5,000. With these funds, they were able to support two families facing homelessness by paying their rent for new accommodations. Encouraged by the success of their campaign, our founders were inspired to do more. They recognized the need for an organization that could reduce the homelessness experienced by refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers.
In May, they founded Finding Refuge, a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide shelter and support to those in need. Since then, they have continued to make a significant impact on the lives of many individuals and families. Their journey has not been easy, but their passion and dedication have helped them overcome every obstacle along the way. They are proud of what they have accomplished so far and are excited to continue making a difference in the lives of those who need it the most.
What We Do
Provide safe and Dignified Housing
Our Duniya Housing Program provides refugees with safe and dignified housing in a community housing center. We also provide in-house education to Duniya community members!
Emergency Needs assistance
Our General Needs Fulfillment Programs allows refugees to apply for emergency funding for medical, legal, and nutritional expenses. Funds are distributed as payment for the specific service or as a financial stipend.
Vocational Training and Employment Opportunities
Our Language Education And Development Program provides unemployed refugees with a source of income. We do so, by training refugees in teaching their native language and connect them to students!
Holistic Goal-oriented support
During their time at Duniya House residents work on achieving their goals and we provide them with support and encouragement throughout their journey! We also provide different services to Duniya House residents such as general needs assistance, education, case working, and resource mapping.
We are youth and female-led with the willpower to ensure that people who have lost everything can have strong foundation to rebuild their lives.
We have grown immensely from our humble beginnings in April 2019. As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the United States we implement our vision through three programs: Duniya, General Needs Assistance, and Language & Education Development.

At Finding Refuge, we aspire to create a future where individuals and communities are empowered to achieve success and prosperity, regardless of the challenges posed by displacement. Our vision is one where every person has access to the resources and support they need to thrive and where displacement does not limit or define their potential. Through our work, we strive to foster a world where resilience, opportunity, and hope are the hallmarks of those who have experienced displacement, and where they are able to realize their dreams and aspirations with confidence and pride.
